Fosi Audio T20 vs Aiyima T9 Pro: Is One Amp Better Than The Other?

I am swimming in class D amplifiers and have already reviewed both the Aiyima T9 and the Aiyima T9 Pro. However, I want to shake things up a bit and thought it would be helpful to compare the Fosi Audio T20 with the Aiyima T9 Pro.

They are both relatively similar, but there are still some notable differences that justify the stark price gap between the two with the Aiyima being around $80 more.

Aiyima T9 Pro vs Fosi Audio T20 Review: What’s the Difference?

With that being said, what are the differences between the two? Because the specs of a device do not necessarily translate into a fixed output, I decided to separate the specs from my analysis of the sound comparison.

Spec Comparison

Power

When it comes to power, the Fosi T20 comes in at 50 watts per channel at four ohms. I don’t know about you, but most of my speakers are rated at eight ohms. So, to make it easier, the wattage is more at 25 watts per channel when measured at eight ohms.

The Aiyima T9 Pro, on the other hand, has a bit more “kick” to it coming in at 100 watts at four ohms or 50 watts at eight ohms.

Connectivity

Then there’s connectivity to consider. The Fosi T20 has many ports including:

●       Speaker Outputs

●       Bluetooth Input

●       RCA Input

●       3.5mm Headphone Jack

Fosi Audio T20 Inputs

The Aiyima T9 Pro has a few more inputs to consider:

●       RCA

●       COAXIAL

●       OPTICAL

●       PC-USB

●       AUX OUT

Aiyima T9 Pro Inputs

Features

The features of both the Fosi T20 and Aiyima T9 Pro are relatively similar; however, the difference mainly comes in when dealing with how to utilize these features.

The Fosi, for example, has three knobs in the front that control the bass, treble, and volume. The Aiyima has one knob with multiple modes that can “do it all” along with a remote for more convenience.

As for the sound output/audio amplifier, the Fosi comes with two 6J tubes along with the TPA3116, and the Aiyima comes with two Jan5725 tubes along with the TPA3250 chip.

Accessories

Before moving on to the price, I think it is worth taking a deeper look at the Aiyima T9 remote control.

The remote control comes with everything you need including being able to control the bass, treble, and volume along with the Aiyima’s display screen, power, and which mode the stereo amplifier is in.

That being said, the Fosi T20 lacks a remote control. While this may not be a big deal for some, if you plan to have your stereo amplifier set up somewhere that is out of your immediate reach, then you may want to consider getting the Aiyima over the Fosi for convenience’s sake.

Price

For those on a budget, the Fosi T20 is priced affordably at around $90. If you’re willing to shell out a little more, then you can buy the Aiyima T9 Pro at around $170.

Considering the extra features, ports, and the Aiyima’s remote, $170 is a reasonable price point.

Sound Comparison

Specs are one thing, and the resulting sound is another. I tested the sound quality of both with the help of some of my favorite albums including Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, “She’s the One” which has become one of my favorite Tom Petty albums.

After listening through the album on each amplifier, I noticed that there wasn’t a huge difference in sound quality between the two. They both supplied plenty of power to the speakers I used, despite the Fosi T20 having about half the power output as the Aiyima T9 Pro.

Also, there’s no need to worry that the Fosi doesn’t have enough power as I had the volume just a quarter of the way up and it was plenty loud for my small listening space.

Both amps produced a lot of detail. Though they were fairly similar, I found that the Fosi tended to emphasize more of the vocals whereas the Aiyima allowed the vocals to drift more into the mix.

To be fair, I was really impressed by the Fosi before I compared it to the Aiyima. So, I think that beginners in particular will be very impressed by how loud the Fosi can get and the quality of the sound.

Both units have tubes

When it comes to the tubes, I didn’t hear much of a sound difference. While some of you may be able to hear the difference in tubes on these amps, I have yet to notice anything major, as I view the tubes in these amps as being used in the gain stage to help with distortion rather than produce a traditional “tube amp” sound.

Overall, I did not hear a major audible difference between the two; so, the sound shouldn’t play a major role in which one you decide to buy.

Should You Buy the Fosi T20 or the Aiyima T9 Pro?

When deciding between the Fosi T20 and the Aiyima T9 Pro, I think it mainly comes down to the options that you need an audio amplifier to have. For example, if you need more connectivity options, or a remote control, then the Aiyima is the better bet.

But, if you’re just looking for the basics and want to save some money, then the Fosi is a great choice. Despite its lower power output, the Fosi still has plenty of volume and acceptable sound quality.

All in all, I think they are both great. At a larger price point, the Aiyima provides greater connectivity options, power output, and convenience from its digital display to its complimentary remote.

The Fosi, on the other hand, is affordable but still provides great audio quality and all the basics that you’ll want for an audio amplifier.

So, whatever you end up choosing, I’m confident that you’ll be happy with your choice.
