Last weekend I stopped by my local record store and started digging through 45s. I was looking for obscure (or least obscure to me) releases that I could add to my collection.
I stumbled on the bright yellow Loma 45 above and didn’t recognize the name, Linda Jones. To me it sounded like a country singer (living in Nashville I find a ton of random country stuff) but I did a quick scan online and realized it was soul related and I quickly added it to my stack.
Linda’s big hit was actually the A side of this 45, the soul ballad, Hypnotized.
I enjoy Hypnotized, but the upbeat soul rocking B Side, I Can’t Stop Lovin’ My Baby, is what caught my ear.
Warner Bros Records shut down the Loma label in 1968 and Linda went on to record with producers, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. I wrote about Gamble and Huff after finding this Intruders 45 a few weeks ago.
I’ve been on a big 45 buying spree recently. Since I own a large LP collection, digging through 45s adds a new level of musical discovery for me lying in wait at my local record store.
I also booked my first DJ gig of 2021 for June 9th and I’m going to try and do an all 45 set which I think will be a lot of fun.
I have a long holiday weekend ahead of me and I hope to find many more 45s just like this one.
